I have very scratched chrome-plated rim in bathroom basin - where pop-up plug is situated. I replaced the chrome pop-up but the rim now looks worse in comparision - scratched and rusty. Can it be taken out and replaced - or do I have to replace the whole basin - which means work on wall and tiles as well - OR - is there any product that restores chrome plate? Thanks!

Pop up waste can just be replaced. Disconnect the lever behind underneath the basin and remove. The waste will then unscrew from the top inside the basin. Take it down to your local plumbers merchant and get a replacement and refit.
