is permision needed for garage

i currently have a lean to/car port on side of my house. i want to take this down and make a more solid brick or block built garage. do i need any permission for this ?

It may need Planning if your original garage didn't have Planning permission. Contact you local Authority and talk to the duty Planning Officer.
