Shouldn't be a problem if you want to use mock flemish or similar.

I'm new to all this but AIUI you have 100mm of overlap which is the minimum required so it is allowed but pro brickies will point and laugh.

No its not acceptable.

Half bond is not difficult, and I would question the competency of a "bricklayer" that can't manage it

Woody, I wouldn't dream of using it in the little blockwork I do. It was merely a curiosity.
