Is some extra solid insulation in the loft worth the effort?

My loft is well insulated mostly, I think, but I have some insulation boards left over from an external insulation job.
I hate throwing things away, especially when it might save me money to use it.
But would lifting the insulation roll and packing in some solid boards, the putting the loft roll back on top, actually be a good use of my time and energy?
And could it make things worse if I accidentally leave gaps?

What else could I do with it, before it goes to landfill?

You could make a box that fits over the loft hatch - example here:

...or offer it on a Freecycle equivalent to be collected?

I used largish Celotex offcuts of varying thickness that someone had skipped for filling in the awkward small gaps under the boarding adjacent to my loft hatch because there were a load of varying height timbers. Not enough to be worth buying a full sheet but small amounts of PIR are always useful to someone.
