There is no official register of sole traders.

Sole traders are not companies, and are not registered in that sense. It is an HMRC requirement that one informs them of you being self employed, within (i think) one month of starting self employment - but I suspect that the info is not publicly available.

What, exactly,is your concern?

His paperwork/letterhead should include his name and if applicable the trading as name. He may well have a business bank account separate to his personal one. The business account will be in the t/a name.

People in "showbiz" often have a stage name, even d.j's.

Perhaps he operates his business account under his pseudonym....?
