I have an oil fired Potterton flowsure combi boiler, and although the central heating is never switched on (maybe on the odd occasion) the boiler is only used for hot water ie baths, showers etc, the pump on the boiler is running almost all of the time although the temp gauge is only showing between 70 to 80degs

I rang Potterton and explained and they said "Locate the pump over-run sensor, remove same from its sleeve and just lay it on top of the pipe." which I did

The pump does not run all of the time now, but, the temp gauge now shows 90degs+ and the boiler does smell warmer!!!!

Hence the question!!!

Regards Bob

Here's my "tenpennyworth"
The Potty flowsure is one of the worst oil fired Combi boilers ever made!!
I hate them -they are neigh on impossible to fix when they go wrong- which they do all too regularly - rip it out and fit a Grant!

Echo Boilerman's comments. The same applies to all combis that rely on automatic hot water store thermostats, that cannot be isolated, unless they have separate pumps like Grant, Firebird. or Warmflow.
If it runs hotter, presumably you notice this in the delivery of hot water. If it doesn't kick the overheat stat, then what is the problem/

Thank you Boilerman and Oilhead for your input much appreciated. :D :D

Gasop, having only just joined this site I don't know anyone, so I am not sure how to answer your post, if you are just being obtuse might I suggest you read the topic again cos the clue is in the title. LOL.
