Now that's thinking out of the box.
I have a variant of that system here. There is a gutter immediately above my earth electrode which almost invariably overflows during heavy rain. That obviously doesn't help during dry spells, but the electrode is also pretty close to an outside tap, so it often gets a bit of a bath even when there's no rain around!
