Hi - this is the top of a side window in my extension - visible is what I presume is the lintel.

This looks a bit unsightly to my eye, and the equivalent element in the sliding patio door is hidden by render (both window and door built, rendered by same builder at same time).

Is this 'right' or should I expect a different finish?

thanks

It doesn't take the fitter more than 5 mins to silicone you an architrave over the black lintel if you ask him nicely. They like tea and cake.

That's not only correct, but it looks like a very nice job too.

I would not want any horrible cover pieces stuck around a frame

Why didn't the patio door go in, then the plasterer fit plasterboard to the lintlel, then plaster the walls. It looks as though the walls have been done first, then the door go in, hence the need for the architrave to cover the mess. And the top piece doesn't even look flat against the wall.
