Ps - if its a repost then I apologise!

is that speaker cable going into the plug on the right hand side? Is that what wrong with the pic?

there is a screw missing out of the socket front, now that cant be safe can it?

Apart from voltage problems using a 110v 60Hz plug supplied from a 230v 50Hz output I see no problem it will work.

As long as room locked and supply to socket removed before room is unlocked.

They're fitted to Granada TVs. You used to get them in hotels. Somebody nicked this one.

Those Granada-branded plug tops were made by MK (the safetyplug, 646/3 WHI). The pins are sleeved.

They were indeed fitted to rental equipment, but there are many out there in the public domain as Granada Rentals merged in 2000 with Radio Rentals & became Box Clever. They now only operate on the net.

There were a few variants of the MK plugtop made for certain brand names/ companies etc. I have one of the Granada plugs shown which was in a box of plugs given to me by a relative and i have one of the PO ones (post office) which were fitted to their telephone systems, i've ripped a few of them out and kept the plugs when i did. i've got a BT one knocking around somewhere, and they all have the safety L/N pins.

seems likely that it is a hotel; it'd explain why someone was trying to squirt 230V up an american plug. wonder it the appliance liked the extra juice?

Reminds me of the picture i saw a few years ago, can't find it now, of a plug (alledgedly in a US base in iraq (they use BS 1363 stuff there)) where the cover had been removed and the fuse replaced with a drill bit. marvellous stuff.

could also have come from Granada TV studios, the BBC used to have marked MK plugtops too to stop staff stealing them, didnt work as all it took was a bit of emery cloth and rub the top on it.

problem?
looks like the socket front is a bit grubby.
could do with a good clean with hot soapy water
no need to disconnect anything, it'll only take a minute.
