A lot of builders bury plastic pipes in screed WITHOUT any joints.

I dont remember ever seeing any leaking.

If I was doing that I would always insulate them.

As Agile says go's on all the time plus the fact that most UFH is plastic & buried in the screed
 
it is fine having plastic pipes in the screed without joints and without conduit, but as you rightly say UFH is done that way, But UFH pipes have 65 - 70mm of screed on top, I doubt the pipes in the pictures will have that much coverage, so he will risk cracking of the screed, as for joints in the floor Tony, well pictures //www.diynot.com/network/alunmorris/albums/13192/49122 looks like these will be buried in screed and picture //www.diynot.com/network/alunmorris/albums/13192/49148 definately shows a joint buried in the screed
