Why is it that in Europe, virtually every bathroom has a socket in it???

In Holland this summer, we had a socket in the bathroom and a hard-wired hair dryer with coily cable that reached into the bath!

Socket was ~ 1m from edge of bath, but on an RCD, even so, I wasn't keen.

Don't use the socket then - it's not compulsory.
