Jigsaw orbital Draper 710w

Can anyone advise as to what may be wrong with my orbital jigsaw. I was using my jigsaw today and it just stopped working, the fuses are fine. Any advise welcome.

Has it had a lot of use?
Typical problems are the switch failing, carbon brushes worn or the cable getting tired when it flexes going into the machine. If there wasn't smell of burning though, an economical repair isn't likely.
To test the switch, you'll need to dismantle the machine and use a multimeter, the brushes may be accessible under two plastic screws on the machine body ( the brushes need to be a few millimetres long ), if you suspect the cable, hold the switch in the on position, and waggle the cable near to the machine.

The jigsaw has had very little use still looks like new the cable is sound, no burning smell when it stopped.
Will dismantle and check brushes and switch as you advise. Thank you

Do check the cable for continuity while you have it apart. I've had cables on quite new kit (invisibly) break where the cable is clamped.

I have taken the jigsaw apart as I did so a tiny metal fragment fell out and a broken brush ! I have re assembled and it is now working. I will have to order some new brushes but so far all OK. As for the tiny metal fragment I could not locate its origins.

Quite possibly its from the brush assembly itself.....the carbon connects to a small round cap by a flexible lead, enclosing a spring too. The round cap does tend to fracture on occasion.

Hello John,
I have taken a couple of super macro picture of the fragment that came out it's length is 5mm I do not think it is part of the brush what do you think?
