What does a Jubilee clip look like? how does one undo it? Also to take off a sump? (black hose which contains the filter I hope) does one unscrew the screws that hold the bit attached to the base of the drum??? How would one prevent water from pouring over the wires as machine not empty??? Sorry I'm a bit thick when it comes to electrics...

I doubt it has a jubilee clip, they are a pain,

have a look at my old HP m/c clicky

where you see the white word "filter" the silver thing just above is the clip that holds the "filter" on You can release it with a pair of water pump pliers / electricns grips (anything that will open wide enough)

Thank you both, I'm more clued up now, I just have to transform into superwoman and will attempt to clean the filter/pump without breaking the machine! Wish me luck

hope its not too late!! but please make sure the correct plug is removed and the machine is not still connected, knew a washing repair man who was killed because he removed the plug for the tumble drier and not the washing machine, shouldn't happen but he must have got careless.
