i have just replaced a small rad in my down stairs bathroom( done this myself)..... i have bled and re-drained the system a couple of times....still got the problem of when I switch on my Worcester Combi 240..it fires up...the flame kicks in and then after about 10 seconds the flame goes out... the boiler does not seem to like it so i then switch the boiler off.
I have set the pressure to 1 bar? The same setting that it has always been on? Any help would greatly be appreciated. thanks

Inside the boiler somewhere near to the top there is an automatic air vent. with what looks like a tyre valve cap on it ..... make sure this is left loose [open say one turn to allow air to escape from your boiler. Not 100% sure but I think on these that this cap actually is accessible from the top of the casing where it protrudes through, so you may not need to take the cover off.

when you say inside the boiler does that mean undo the four screws and take that panel away? i,ve taken the front casing away and can not see any valve? again many thanks for any help

i believe this is an auto airvent (but the picture was taken at an "odd" angle)

If you have a sealed system the auto air vent is on the top right of the heat exchanger.

If you have an open vent and a header tank you should check there is water in the tank

ah........found the vent. I will make sure the valve is loose and then try again. Thanks

++++++++++++++++++++++++

still not working......twiddled the valve..switched the boiler on and the same problem....the boiler is firing..flame for about 10 seconds and it then switches off.....the flame goes out? any other suggestions ?

Kevplumb....How can i tell if the pump is working/running. The noise seems to be coming from the pump? i think?...... what if i turn the large screw on the front of the pump?my Worcester manual tells me its a Pump Vent Screw?...... Again many thanks.....Lucky the weather is nice and hot. Could be cold showers for us tonight

i am not a plumber or heating engineer, but i have one question i wonder could you clarify what you have done.

you said I have set the pressure to 1 bar?

how did you do that? or do you mean that you refilled the system till the "needle" on the gauge read 1 bar

undo the screw will get a dribble of water and see if the shaft is spinning

if not try turning it with a small screwdriver :wink:

yippee .....twisted that valve again and undone the pump screw and the boiler is now firing.....albeit my new rad is stone cold.... there does not seem to be any hot water getting there ...all the other rads are nice and warm?....hopefully this is just an airblock and i,ll do a search on this site if i struggle.

many thanks to all those that responded.... much appreciated...great site
