Hello,
I'm Tony, new to the site, first post.
I'm redoing our bathroom, replacing a toilet, washbasin & cast iron bath fitted by previous householder. I'm pretty much OK with the first two, so can I just check a few things :
1. Been told best way to remove CI bath is to drill a hole or two in it, cover with HEAVY material (carpet underlay, blankets, etc) then 'pursuade' it to split into smaller pieces with a big lump hammer - any one got a better way ?
2. When CI bath removed, how best should I prepare the floor for a new bath. Have already got the new bath, but its messy under the old bath and even though no-one will ever see it I'd like to do the job right and properly prepare the floor.
3. The floor boards look like they could do with replacing, so I'm going to do it all. As my plan is to half tile / half carpet (tiled half near the bath) what should I use to replace the floor boards ? New floor boards or some special waterproof/water-resistant board ? ?
4. I've 'trolled' a bit and read a lot about tanking - should I also do this ?
5. Currently the installation (old one) has no isolation or service valves on any of the supplies to the bath, basin or toilet but I'm going to install them as it makes sense. I know how to turn the cold water feed off to the house. As the boiler is a combi with no tank anywhere, with water turned off and downstairs taps open - this should drain the H&C circuits - yes ?
Apologies if the questions are basic, but I'd rather look a fool at this point than do something REALLY stupid
