k,ohm and m,ohms

Its got a bit confusing again, all the OP needed to know was k or kilo = multiply x 1000, M or meg = multiply by 1000000. End of story. The OP was talking about Ohms not memory.

Prefixes

m = milli = thousandth or x.001
c = centi = Hundredth or x.01

K = kilo = thousnads or x1000
M = mega = millions or x 1000000

And so on.

Just think about these applied to one meter (about 3ft 4in).

cm and mm are marked on your tape measure (unless you have a strange French one marked in decimeters) - one meter = 100 centimeters = 1000 millimeters)

km appear on continetal road signs. 1km = 1000m = 1,000,000mm

Same principles apply to Ohms, Watts, Jules etc.

True, but once you go down a mink-hole it's nice to stay there :D

(A mink hole is a bit like a rat hole but warm and furry so a nice place to be).

I saw an interesting insult on a website once - hard to reproduce here, but you can probably work it out:

"I'd call you a ****, but you lack both the depth and the warmth".

The first * was a letter between B & D.

One source of confusion is ignoring the convention that multiplying factors should be expressed in upper case letters, and dividing factors as lower case letters.

So M = Mega = multiply by 1,000,000
And m = milli = divide by 1000.
etc.
etc.

Maybe one source of confusion is thinking that is the convention when in fact it does not apply to da, h & k (10, 100 & 1000).... :wink:
