Just moved into a house with metal gates at the front. They are chunky things that are powder coated black. They are looking a bit faded at the moment (from the elements) and I wondered if there were tips to keep them nice? Or is it time to apply hammerite?

Thanks

Hammerite is horrible, you'll get more longevity if you prep well, prime bare spots, undercoat and gloss.

I use hammerite spray for our metal gates, there's always going to be some waste when spraying but on the plus side spray is quick, and gets into the crevices and awkward bits.

The gate is wrought iron with curls so I do it in four stages. Front right way up, front upside down, repeat on the rear.

Smooth Hammerite - spray as advised above. I prefer to use a zinc primer just for a bit extra protection but not necessary if surface isn't too badly rusted.

Im in a similar position and wont use hammerite any more so am thinking about johnstones smooth metal paint.
