Can sone wise owl help me with a little problem with my boiler.

When the boiler fires up it goes through the full firing up sequence fan, pump then when it ignites, the boiler back fires, with a large bang, just like a car backfiring then a flame comes out of the air intake at the top of the heat exchanger, just infront of the fan.

Any clues on what could be causing this please?

Forgot to mention its domestic gas

 :? :(

there could be multiple things causing this it could be due to blocked flueways in the heat exchanger a blockage within the flueing system or even a faulty gasvalve or a possible problem with ignition electrode or incorrectly set combustion figures either way my friend not something to be messed around with please employ the services of a decent rgi to come and sort it out for you but it would be worth while finding someone with experience/knowledge with working on keston boilers

The technical reason is a late ignition after the combustion area has filled with gas/air mix.

The cause is another matter and as advised you need a competent registered gas engineer.
