Keyfobs / Prox Tags

Do you think though that the average opportunist scrote who pinched a handbag for another quick fix would then travel to your home address and risk getting caught knowing that its only a matter of time before the bag theft is discovered/reported?

Guess that depends on the scrotes in the area you are living in and how opportunitst they really are...

Its not unheard of for said scrotes to call the owner of the property a few days later pretending to be the police and asking the victim to go to the station to collect belongings they have found... only to find out once at the station that no such call was placed by the police... They then return home to find the house ransacked...
Surely the first job would be changing the barrel on the lock and de-activating any fobs?

Lots of if's and but's but I don't see a bunch of stolen key any different to a bunch of stolen keys with a fob attached.

Spot on with the changing locks - and most people would... however there are vulnerable people out there who wouldn't for cost etc or it not occur to them to do so! Either way, they are a handy feature to use, if used properly, but imo not for everyday use or not for entry - just exit setting. End of the day its up to the homeowner to assess the risks and decide!

The pickpocket has a copy key cut and then goes to the house to return the bag that he "found abandoned". He ( or she ) might even accept a small reward for being such a caring person. OK they won't have the key fob but having "cased the joint" when returning the bag they need less time to find the valuables and won't be too concerned that the alarm is sounding.

seriously? you're now letting your imagination run wild a bit ;)

So the pick pocket would go through all that trouble and not be bothered about the alarm sounding so why didn't he just put a brick through an un-overlooked window in the first place? oh wait the house holder could have laminated glass in the windows! sheesh

Never under estimate the criminal mind. One of my relatives had their car stolen from in front of the house ( 1970's when it was easy to hot wire a car ). It re-appeared outside a few days later, valeted and more petrol than when it was stolen. An apologetic letter about a broken down car and getting a pregnant / sick girlfriend or wife to hospital and two theatre tickets as compensation. They went to the theatre and when the criminals entered the empty house they were met by a couple of police officers who had been there for several hours before the people left for the theatre.

always change your locks if you have keys stolen even if they are returned, like wise you should always change locks when you move home.

bet the police wouldn't do that now....lol but that's a good way to get people out of the home for a certain time and duration.
