Made a start on taking out a wall between my kitchen and dining room. I stupidly mentioned the possibility to the boss and she's forcing it through!

WE built the house 29 years ago, and I was 98% certain the wall was non loadbearing, but handed over £180 to a local SE for him to confirm it.

Council were uninterested other than that fact, and in asking me about the stairs being still enclosed and fire exits etc.

So Day One...

Nice job.

Shouldn't take too long, you just got the ceiling and floor to repair and the wiring in place.

Mind all that mess on your nice wood floor or you'll end up with twice the work.

Wiring (inc new CU) all done for the appliances and new lights, pipework moved for the radiator that was on the demolished wall done at the at far end, plastering prep Friday, plastering proper, Saturday. I hope!

Really? It looks a well seasoned wooden floor. Are you chucking it out, or recycling?
You are right, of course, but it's 25 years old, and is really showing its age. I thought long and hard about buying a planer thickneser, but it's too much work tbh. I've already sanded and coated a few years back, but it was never the same. I may well find a use for it. You can collect it if you want lol!

Don't tempt me...the parquet in the liv. room and hall is looking 'tired and distressed' after many years of use and abuse, and i've thought about replacing it several times. The pfaff of taking all the furniture out while i do the job prevents any progress on the idea, though.

Gawd no! My great nephew and his mate from work stepped in (his Nan made him lol). Ceiling's done now, I'll post a pic tomorrow. The far wall and side gashes where the wall was will be done tomorrow.
When I plastered the ceiling, I just used thistle multi finish. Only used one coat and painted over.

Next steps:
1 few more days drying out
2 Skirtings off
3 Decorate- herself wants plain white.
4 Lift the wood floor in view above.
5 Check subfloor, level if needed.
