Our kitchen is cold and the moisture from cooking etc is causing damp and mold. I have come to the conclusion that we need to fit an extractor fan of some kind but have no idea which type to buy or how to fit one. Or even roughly the price an electrician will charge for fitting one. If there are any plug in ones that could be better still.

If anyone can steer me towards a good model and price I will be grateful and also what tools I will need. The kitchen is quite small with a small utility at the very end where the damp seems to hang.

We already have a cooker hood extractor. It doesn't go outside though. Just in the hood as it has a filter. Will that do the same job ?

Firstly do you use it?
The carbon filter will help take away smells/odours, grease and moisture from the air.
But it would be more efficient if it was vented to the outside, this would reduce a lot more of the steam and moisture.
As it will constantly be changing the air circulation within the kitchen.
It is quite possible that yours can be vented out, do remember if it came with a ventilation kit, could look something like this.

But if your utility area is the problem is the tumble dryer vented?
It could well be a good idea for the time being to open a kitchen window whilst using hob and tumble dryer.

We inherited it when we moved in so no kit. Unfortunately the cooker is against the adjoining wall to next door and not an outside wall.

You could consider, Installing a new hood and running a duct through the ceiling void to external wall, a bit more work than I guess you want.
Your other option would be a wall mounted Axial fan.
This would mean installing a spur to the fan and holing the wall.
