Hi All,

I’ve embarked on a kitchen renovation. After ripping out a lot of decommissioned pipe work that had been left in place, I have a much better understanding of what each pipe is doing. However these two pipes in the pictures which come from the Combi boiler are confusing me. As one feds back into the other. Is this do do with the flow and return system of central heating? I need to move these pipes, as the wall they are against is coming down. But was hoping to get a better understanding of what they are.
I’ve a Worcester Combi boiler and I’ve identified the hot and cold water feeds so I know it’s not them.

Thanks I’m advance if you can help!

IANAP but all three pipes in the first image are all interconnected. It looks like there's been several adaptations of the plumbing over the years and it no longer quite makes sense.

Could it be that the central heating branched there in the past and one of the legs now short circuits a bit?

Look like there's an auto bypass at the bottom of the left hand pipe, it's needed to allow min flow though the boiler at pump overrun or if all the system valves close.

What model of boiler is it? Do all your radiators have TRV's?

Thanks Rob, Its a Worchester bosch Greenstar 30CDi Classic System and yes my radiators apart from the bathroom towel rail one all have TRVs.

Are you sure? You said you had a combi boiler but the model you have mentioned is not a combi, rather a system boiler.

If you do have a 30CDI Classic System boiler then it does have an internal bypass but given there is an auto bypass fitted that would suggest the CH design is such that an auto bypass is required between the main flow and return CH pipes.

It can be re-sited though to allow your wall to be removed but I'd recommend an experienced professional is engaged to do the work.

Apologises Rob, I've managed to rake out the instruction manual and its actually the Greenstar CDi - Wall hung RSF Gas fired Condensing Combination boiler.
Not sure if that would have bearing on your comment above? Or would this system also require a bypass in certain circumstances? Actually reading through it, it does mention a bypass is required in some circumstances. So perhaps getting a professional in is the next step. When I went back for a closer look, the return on the bypass pipe has a valve, does that make answer more obvious ?

Your boiler has the same criteria for needing an auto bypass. That was the valve I saw at the bottom left of pic 1.

I would get someone in just to check, it was fitted for a reason.
