I see on GC once before someone buying a kitchen online saying how good the quality was and the cost was good...

I need answers.,,,,,,...

DIY kitchens is only place I know, but tbh it's no better than wren who mostly can match the cost and they design it for you.

When I did my kitchen last year I looked at DIY kitchens as i was finding Howdens a little pricey. Designed it online on their website and ordered samples for the colours/style I was looking at. They sent a price through which I thought was really good. Samples look good, nothing wrong with the quality. Then I got cold feet, I know with howdens their supply chain is good, anything damaged replaced immediately no quibble and they're on my doorstep, DIY are in Yorkshire so there's more potential for something to go wrong. I took the quote round to Howdens and said match that which they did.

We've just added to our exiting (Howdens) kitchen with more Howdens stuff, after some home alterations. We went for the compact laminate worktops and a slidey-push-pull tall larder unit and other bits and pieces.
Not bad gear.

We ripped out a complicated Howdens pull-out corner unit that was working perfectly when I yanked it. What impressed me most was that it took some bashing up (to save skip space) with much effort from my eldest sprog.

All the soft close stuff is working well. All (soft close) drawers work well.

No complaints from the Noseall family.

Chip board or MDF?

and don’t forget yer quooker boiling tap

The backs are MDF. The rest is chipboard I think.

MDF backs, chipboard carcasses, cabinet doors can be either chipboard or mdf. I've got the cheaper slab doors which are 16mm thick chipboard. With the chipboard doors they've obviously got the plastic coating (mine are dove grey gloss), more so with the gloss finish, with light reflecting on them it shows a slight 'orange peel' effect on the surface, it's barely noticeable unless the light catches it right, or you pick up a refection of a ceiling light. The more expensive doors are slightly thicker and mdf. The mdf is a smoother finish so the coating is almost like glass, no orange peel effect in the light, also I believe the covering is 'wrap around' whereas mine have a coating on the front and separate layer on the sides and back so I guess they could be more succeptible to moisture ingress.
Although I've fitted a few over the years, I wasn't really aware of any of this till last year when I compared specs with DIY.

Matt finish seems to be the trend these days, I'm not a fan, but I guess the matt finish wouldn't show the rippling against light.

Yeah we've had the charcoal slab matt finish. Loves showing off greasy finger prints.

Really rate the compact laminate though.
