Knots?

I have gone over the Knots with 2 part wood filler then primered the whole gates with 2 coats. I have rubbed it all down with a wire brush and the primer hasn't been disturbed, holding up well.

What do you call the green bits in your photo then? Those are probably under your primer now since you didn't recognize them.

Going to dry them out for a week, as been bucketing down here, then an oil based primer , then Superdec. I assume when it has been gone over with a wire brush and Power washed it will not need sanding again?

You can sand if you want to. My assumption is that it is the job of the primer to stick to anything.

If you power wash it, that's same as pouring rain. Then you have to dry another week. What I do is clean and tidy first, then paint with undiluted bleach using brush. Once dry wipe with damp towel. Then dry, prime, and paint.

Yes , I remember "the green bits" I washed that that off with Sodium Percarbonate, the whole gates. Getting forgetful, it's that age....

It's been out in very heavy rain for 3 days and they are not getting any heavier so assuming Primer is doing it's job,....2 coats .

You mention heavy rain and pressure washing.

You do NOT want to be doing any painting if the surface is wet, or damp.

Remember water gets in all the cracks, so if there's any moisture under the paint it can cause the new paint to blister, or not bond well.

Yes, now they will be hung in a dry/airy shed to dry out before anything else. Dry weather forecast here for a good few days....
