You do know that the door you keep shoving is already completely open? Everyone accepts that the tories were terrible by every measure.

The point is that the white knights who took over are now doing exactly the things they criticised their predecessors for.

It must be tempting to throw your toys out of the pram and go for a GE, the one thing that Burnam couldn't control, but in the end the party was bigger than his ego. I suppose his legacy is one of the biggest majority's in parliamentary history, never lost an election, never been challenged in a leadership contest.

Burnam’s in a remarkable position where a bloke wins a byelection and is crowned leader and PM with out a contest or tested policies. He cannot change the state of tne economy which is driven by world events. Apart maybe from exerting a restraining influence on the bond markets, and reducing/removing the triple lock (yeah right). So it’s a popularity contest with Farrage.

What’s sad is that Burnam is a product of personality politics not long term planning. The merry go round continues with Farrage and Rupe.

A new thread because Andy seems set to take over. It’s somewhat arrogant to expect a coronation when your plans for the country haven’t been properly scrutinised by party members. I hope the PM gives him a run for his money.

There are no advantages whatsoever for the Labour Party, or Keir Starmer, in him standing to be re-elected leader.

But there absolutely needs to be a contest, not a handover.
