A new thread because Andy seems set to take over. It’s somewhat arrogant to expect a coronation when your plans for the country haven’t been properly scrutinised by party members. I hope the PM gives him a run for his money.

I would prefer starmer to limp on, he's the best man they've got for the job. Burnham will cause damage and he is already behaving as if the job is his.

He will have no mandate and that was the biggest issue Gordon Brown faced.

If starmer fights, he will be humiliated. His ship has sailed.

Starmer's options are:
- orderly transition
- nominate an heir apparent and let him lose
- fight and lose.

Burnam faces the huge challenge that the right wing media and politicians have made asylum the central issue in British politics. It’s important but not more important than the economy, the threat from Pootin and his mates, and European integration and investment on defence

What is important is what voters say is important and the polls show immigration is important.
Only because the country's problems have been blamed on immigration, by the right wing media, who I'm sure are not affected by problems in the economy.
So their motivation must be another reason.

A vote to get Keir out.
Don’t buy Nige’s justification. Re form voters don’t vote tactically, look at re store’s success as proof. What Knackeredfield showed is the ability of the left generally to vote tactically. Lib Dem’s, Greens etc. That should worry the right.

“Reform voters…”. That’s where you make your error right there. 1/4 of the voting public have said they intend to vote reform.

Lots of those voted for others previously. That is tactical voting right there.

Do you not see a connection between immigrants and the economy?
