People voted re form to sort out immigration, the broad left voted tactically to sort out re form. Makerfield is proof.of that. There is no way re form voters shifted to Burnam to get Starmmer out. Unless they were being stupid.

There may have been a few re form voters who went for Labor to get Starmer out, but the significant tactical vote was the left coming together (Lib Dums, Greens) to keep re form out. Makerfield had the sixth highest re form vote at the last GE, and were thrashed on Thursday, as they were at the by election that the Green plumber won. Nige should be worried, because he’s hemmed in by Re store on the right. Not even another five million can ease his woes.

It was a two horse race. Unfortunately the reform chap wasn’t as polished as the professional career politician.

I could understand the claim that Labour is bouncing back if it was reflected in the polls.

He was as polished as a re form candidate gets, in fact the perfect cv and social media history. Re form threw everything at this that they could, and would have lamentably failed, even without Re stores help

The future doesn't look bright for Kier but how can his likely departure be described as dignified and graceful when Burnam's proxies are handing him the gun saying choose the bullet the time and the place, just get on with it. Kieth has a lot of power here because clearly the other prospective leadership candidates have been promised roles in the new cabinet if they ease Andy's path to no 10. Yet we know nothing about what he proposes as PM, despite the party's big guns saying this is all about policy. I hope Starrmer forces a leadership contest so the country knows what an unelected prime minister whose platform was personal popularity proposes to do to improve things.
 
The next prime minister will be our 7th in 10 years. Given that each time the conservatives changed pm, the Labour Party said a GE should be called.
