Hello all.

My boiler and unvented tank is in the attic where it's really cold this time of year so I want to lag the pipes. I'm looking at using 25mm wall climaflex and it seems straightforward to do, but I wanted to know if there are any guidelines when doing this? I read a post saying don't lag within 1 metre of the boiler - is this right, and would that go for the cylinder as well?
I'm thinking the flow, return, hot and cold, and mains cold supply pipes all need to be lagged, is this right too? I don't need to do the gas supply do I?

Another thing is I have the pipes dropping from the attic into the corner of the landing where they're boxed in. I don't want to rip the box apart as it's coved and plastered but I may be able to get lagging onto the pipes from above and then push/feed it down the box. Never worked with the material before though, so would this be possible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i would say lag all pipes and your tanks in the loft.you dont need to lag the gas pipe!! if the pipes that are boxed in are not in your loft then they should be ok just try and push some down where the pipes exit the boxing in to stop any drafts on them. if your boiler in in your house (not in you garage or loft) then those pipes should be ok. good luck

Thanks for the advice bryan. So would it be fine to lag the pipes all over - there's no rule that says not to lag them 1 meter from the boiler or tank?

I'd not considered lagging the tank as it's unvented and quite a recent one. Would a jacket be of much use? I'm going to celotex the rafters and build a cupboard around the tank then celotex that as well. Thought that would be good enough.

if the boiler is inside the house there is no need to lag upto the boiler if its in the garage or loft i would and have lagged all the way to the boiler.its best to lag everything that contains water as its better to protect than to repair the damage.i have seen some damage done by water over te years!!
