Hi everyone

I'm planning on fitting a floating laminate floor in our bathroom, where we have a floor mounted towel radiator.
The base of the radiator looks something similar to this:

I can deal with the actual radiator pipe coming up, as I know to leave 10mm gap around the pipe and then fit a pipe rose to make it look nice.

But, the actual fixing on the right hand side obviously needs some screws through it to fix it to the subfloor.
Can I do this, but still make sure that the laminate has room to expand so it won't warp? I'm assuming it wouldn't be a good idea for the screws to get in the way of any movement/expansion of the floating floor.

The screw holes are very close to the edge of the fixing and ideally I'd not want to see a gap between the laminate floor and the base of the fixing if you see what I mean...

Would be great if it looked like this one (I know it is a slightly different radiator model and I'm not 100% sure how they have fitted the floor but hopefully you get my point):

If anyone has any thoughts it would be greatly appreciated as this is the only thing that is worrying me just now and stopping me starting the work!

many thanks

If I understand correctly, your problem is that as the floor mounted towel rail is already fitted how you would best achieve the same or similar look as per your second image, is that correct? ...pinenot :)

thanks pinenot, yes, that's exactly what I'm after :-)

just for it to look like the second picture!

cheers

One part of those two flanged sections is the water infeed/outfeed pipes, the other is an adjustable foot, assuming your fitment(s) is the same as the first image then I need to know if your disconnecting the rail? ...pinenot :)

The feet of my radiator are not adjustable unfortunately.
Sorry, I appreciate the radiator in the link does indeed look like they are adjustable feet, but mine aren't.
I can take a photo later on when I'm home and upload if that would help...

But yes, I'm planning on disconnecting the radiator and refitting after the floor is laid.

Well as you are disconnecting the unit I would suggest an extension fitted to the pipe/valve connection, possibly using the existing olive on the pipe end fitting to the new extension piece. The foot rose would simply fit on top of the laminate floor at the new level - View media item 68970 ..pinenot :)

That sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the tip.

only slight worry I have remaining is how to secure the foot to the floor (as it wobbles a bit without it being screwed down) without screwing through the laminate. This would stop the laminate being able to expand/contract, no?

Have uploaded a few pics of the radiator, see below.

thanks very much for your help so far, pinenot!

Looking at these latest images, suggests that most of the fixing strength is above the floor fixings in the wall at the top fixings, therefore fixing/screws limited to some 3/4" long below the floor flange/rose, will both fix the towel rail and because more of the fixing is in the laminate than the substrate floor, allow sufficient movement, in my opinion...pinenot :)
