laminate flooring on top of laminate flooring

is it ok to lay laminate flooring on top of some old laminate flooring ,if i can,can i get away without using underlay,a mate has the old lam in place,underneath this is quality underlay,the foil backed kind

i personaly don't think its a good idea to lay on top of old lamin because of access raising the level by 12mm ect requiring doors to be trimmed

but if you have to i would say underlay is the crutial bit to stop "clacking" and other noise ;)
 
he has quite a clearance on the doors has it is,but putting more underlay to stop noise is a good idea,never thought of that,cheers for your help,
