Hi all,

I'm planning on laying a laminate flooring in my hall, it's currently wood effect vinyl and at the front door has a framed access hatch with a coir mat laid over it. Photo attached.

I'm not too keen on the mat so would be happy to get rid of it but I'm not sure what's the best way to dress in the hatch making it look tidy without causing a trip hazard.

My current thoughts -
1. Just fill the mat cutout with flooring, leave/replace the aluminium edging.
2. Fill the mat cut out with flooring but without any edging on it. This would be ok but I don't want to board edges to get all chipped/look rubbish.

Any other suggestions??

End your laminate at the front edge of the current coir mat and go all the way across with normal carpet. That what I have done and I periodically swap the carpet section with another that you can pick up really cheap as an off cut.
Cut it out to fit as a fitted carpet in that section at the front door
