My mobile wants me to input a "Pre Shared key" before it will access my wireless router ( LAN ). Its a common Netgear DG834G.

What is this and where do I find it?

It may want further info after that.

Was the router supplied by your ISP? If it was, the key should be listed on a label on the router.

Router supplied by ISP but only has two listings, "serial" and "mac".

The key they are referring to is the one you entered when setting up your wireless settings in the router.

Make sure your router is connected to your PC with an ethernet cable
Open internet explorer and in the address bar at the top type in the following 192.168.0.1 and press enter key
use admin for user and password for the password
This should open up a router setup page
On the left hand side click on wireless settings
where it says security options make sure WPA-PSK is selected
In the box at the bottom type in a key phrase ( anything you like )
click apply and close the windows back to the desktop
You now have the required key ( and whats more important NO one else has it )

Entering that in the address bar converts it to http.192.98.0.1 and then it says the site cannot be found DNS error.

I connect through AOL !

try typing in routerlogin.net
Just as Iv'e written it here no http:// . No www.
Usually asks for a login name and password.
Different ISP's will have different login
If your with Virgin Media the login name is virgin and the password should be password.
Simples ;) ;) ;)

Just an update for you. I've just accessed my router and went to the knowledge base for netgear products. The default login and password for most Netgear routers is > login = admin. Password = password.
For older models the password may be 1234.
Hope this helps. ;) ;)

Tried that too and still the same!

Sme "free" routers have the .net method disabled!!
open a dos window
type in the following

ipconfig

press enter

then use the gateway address displayed as the address in the internet explorer task bar

Start > run > type cmd in the box and press return ( this is for XP )

for vista type command in the seartch box at the bottom right of screen.

It will add the http:// automatically. Can't see why it wont find your router as that's the default address for it.
Try routerlogin.com. If all else fails try searching on the Netgear website
