Land drain silting prevention

I've got a porous pipe land-drain running through a new-build garden which I'm told I must not cover over with loose soil as it will block up the pipe. THe plastic pipe is in a trench with 20mm chippings.
Is there a product (ie filter fabric?) or method of covering the pipe/trench so that I can get on with landscaping the garden?
