landing size for new extention

Hi,i am planning on building a extention on the side of my house its going to be double storey with a garage at the bottom and bedroom on the top.
what i am trying to find out is what is the minimum size of landing i can get a away with at the point of entry to new extention this will be on the top of original stairs were there is a small landing then a step up to it as the finished extention is only 2m wide space is important.

I think it can be as little a 400mm.

Landing width is to be the same width as the stair. So an 800mm wide stair would have an 800mm deep landing. This can be reduced to 400mm if a door swings across it.
