laptop monitor failure

I have a TravelMate 2700, it is about 6 years old. All of a sudden the screen has decided to give up on me. There is an image but its very dark, any advice on the subject would be great

no seriously although the screen has failed the computer will most probably still work ok
you can plug a monitor into it and retrieve everything you need on to disk
we have a HP laptop working like this (screen was removed completely

Yeh thaught so, doing that right now, we were just going to give our old pc monitor away, good job we didn't

The display backlight isnt working - it's either the light itself or the inverter which powers it. Either way it wont be cheap to replace the parts if you can find them (unless you can find second hand cheap parts). Given the age I would have to agree that there is no point in pursuing it further - buying a new laptop would be the best solution.
