Just checking over a bungalow originally built 1963 that has had a lot of modifications done in 2003 and also has a detached garage with power to it. Found the fuse box but there is also this additional box with what looks like a circuit breaker switched 'off'. Any ideas please

Hi,

As long as you are careful, open it up and have a look! :)

Nothing is (very!) likely to jump out at you.
Given the amount of wires entering the box, as above, it seems likely that there's a junction box inside.
There may be a slight possibility of other control units inside e.g. garage door controller?
But too many cables for just that.

Then send us a pic of the inside :)

If the building was done in metal tube it may be a Junction box so they could reuse the old pipe network.
The small box is a RCD possibly at one time for the garage

Many thanks gents when I'm back at home I'll have a look inside. It is next to a very old and hopefully disconnected fusebox. Photos to follow but thats really helpful, I have only just joined this forum, thank you for the swift replies

Quite possibly an alarm or shower pump box, could be something else though.

Hopefully not one of those 'rewires' where some lowlife just joined the ancient rubber cables to some short lengths of new T&E and installed a new consumer unit a short distance away.
