laying floor tiles in a brick pattern

Please can you help I like the brick pattern on the floor and people are saying to me that it is harder to lay and that there is alot of waste tiles. Please can you help.
 
nonsense, unless the area you are covering is an exact number of tiles either way.

Just mark the centre of the tile and line it up with the centre of the joint between the ones on the previous row. You have to cut the ones at the edge of the room (as with any job, staggered or not), so make sure, as with all tiling, you have the same-ish cut piece at either end of a row, as it looks better in general.
