Laying off of rollered gloss

Am about to try, for the first time, roller-applying gloss on an exterior (single) door. I understand the concept of laying off with a dry brush, but I'm pondering a couple of aspects:
How soon does the brush become not 'dry' enough and what do you do with it then before continuing?
Is it best to roller the whole door then lay off, or do it in several areas, one at a time?

Suggestions/experiences welcomed.

Tip off before gloss skins.
Depends on what gloss and drying conditions.
Roll door takes say 2 mins then tip off which is another 2 mins.
As for brush normally have two.
With water based paint I would wash out. Stand on cardboard. Lift toes up and bang brush on end of boot so water flows out on cardboard.
Keep brush damp ready to tip off next door or whatever you are painting.

If oil paint wrap in cling film.
Wash out with white spirit and bang on foot catching white spirit on cardboard if required. Oil stays wetter than water based

Just cos I was thinking it's perhaps quicker (?)

Painting your front door - if that's what it is - may not be the right place to prefer speed over quality. Is it a plain door, or does it have glazing or other features?

Not that I know much about the subject! I defer to the actual decorators.

Just a couple of side doors on the garage, so a mirror finish isn't essential. Not glazed or owt, just t&g with bracing.
