Hi,

Ive had a quote to lay solid oak flooring throughout my house. The guy has quoted for WPB Plyboard as the underlay.

My question is, is this the best thing to do?

Other people suggest to me that you can just nail the tongue and groove to already exisiting floorboards. So no underlay is needed.

But what about moisture/creaking of wood etc...

Any advice much appreciated.

If the new boards are to be installed in the same direction of the existing boards, plywood is needed to prevent movement of the new floor (see-saw effect when existing floorboard are cupped and.or unlevel)

I always like to lay the matting on an insulation board or a cement board so if you could add that into the equation that would be good. Place under floor heating then 2 part mapped leveling compound over the wires. Thanks.
