Hi,

Is it possible to lay wooden decking directly onto a balcony with a metal surface?

Pic of balcony inserted below.

Thanks in advance,
Ramin

Yes, it is possible, BUT not recommended as you will have wood sitting in almost permanent water. Better to put the frame on small block of stone.

You could lay treated battens on the floor, and fix some deck boards to those, so it all just floats on the metal.

The deck boards themselves should be held up, as if they stay wet they get slippery. The deck boards decaying isn't an issue (in that they will get slippery before they decay if they are straight onto the metal.)

The battens won't last long, unless very well treated, but it's a cheap easy solution.

If you can bring the height up enough, you could lay the battens on 8mm plastic packers, then 38x38min battens, and then 20mm+ deck boards.
