Hi all,

We have a solar hot water panel and one of the pipes coming from it seems to be leaking an oil-like substance, presumably thermal transfer fluid. The pressure gauge is showing zero bar, so once it's fixed it will likely need topped up.

The leak is coming from a specific joint in the pipework, where the flexible pipe meets the fixed pipework.

My query is, is this something that's easy enough to fix, or does it need specialist attention? I had a quote from the installers (Kingspan) and they wanted £250+ just to attend - crazy!

Any advice appreciated!

With solar you have to be on the ball, seen some have a go heros that made a cylinder inpload , but not all engineers are aware of solar regs etc. Atleast going to a manufacturer they will send some one competent (you would expect!?!) but don't mess with it yourself
Good luck

To the OP, go onto the MCS installer database and find local Solar Thermal Installers, they will have the gear and thermal transfer fluid to sort it. I look after a few systems in my area.

Thank you both, I have emailed 4 local installers for a quote to repair and top up the system - hopefully they'll not want the £250 that Kingspan wanted!

Cheers!
