Leak under kitchen sink

Poster #16,
"running a bead of silicone around the sink where it meets the work top" suggests to me where the rim of the sink is sealed from water from the bowl splashing up etc.
The other silicone that we can see in pic #2, I call the fixing silicone.
Which one do you mean?

My point is that previous sealants have not worked, and adding more (even CT1) on top of a failure could turn out expensive for the OP paying, say, up to £60/hr for a plumber to attend.

I am a plumber.
CT1 around the rim, would be a "sealing joint" but a continuous bead of it would be strong enough to hold the sink in place AND waterproof the joint, if done properly.

During bathroom ripouts, I regularly experience basins held on the wall just by the silicone seal around the top and sides, when the pedestal has been removed. Often, trying to remove said basin, takes the tiles off the wall, rather than breaking the silicone joint.
So, IME unless OP intends to stand in the sink, it should be fine and if not... Later on, go to plan B.

I know you are a plumber from Potters Bar but the job is in Bradford, & without knowing the going rate in Bradford I would imagine its far less than in London.

The very name, "sealing" that we have both agreed on suggests just that - the CT1 seals. But as for making a "waterproof joint" it might work and it might not but you would chance reinforcing failure with the possibility of a further plumber's visit?

FWIW: As for cutting any bead of silicone or similar I heat a paint scraper Tool Store #96313, & it will release the most stubborn silicone without disturbing the tile.

Try the @ symbol then immediately start typing the name of the user you want to tag, thus... @ree

The water leak under the sink is ingressing the joint between the rim of the sink and underside of worktop - most likely exacerbated by capillary action.
Applying a 5mm bead of CT1 will do 2 jobs in one - it will seal the joint, adhere the sink to the worktop and it will be practically invisible.

This is what I would do as a DIYer and a Plumber - for £10 and 20 mins it's a no brainer.

That's my advice, it's up to @Palmist to follow it or not (y)

Poster #21,
Your attempt to divert to the man making the argument, and not the argument itself means, of course, that you've lost the argument.

Pay cheap - pay twice seems to be what you are saying.

I found a leek under my kitchen sink:

What bloody argument?
Jeez it's a bloody simple problem with a simple bloody fix.

Lol, haven't you got better things to do in Cali than trawl a UK diy forum?

Never mind. I'm here to help the person with the problem - not debate with a keyboard warrior.

With respect:
I know its a simple problem but you turned a simple problem into an argument which you lost & have continued to lose by your own excited words - what does "Cali" have to do with this?
But you have been arguing, & are now debating with your excited drama & losing diversions.

Cal fornia - the magnitude of the man, not bad at all esp for a three times Darwin prize winner.

Just saying but if you were in Cali fornia you would probably have got a pardon by now & been released?
