Leaking electricity meter
  • The important thing is not to panic. With a few simple checks we'll get the problem solved as quickly as possible.
    If the leaking substance is hot
    If there’s a hot substance like black tar leaking from your electricity meter, and it has a strange smell, you need to contact our Emergency line immediately on 08000 727 282*.
    If Southern Electric is not your local network operator, use our list of emergency phone numbers.
    If the leaking substance is cold
    If it’s cold and there’s no smell, phone our Enquiry line on 0800 980 8476*. They will pass your details on to our engineers who will contact you to make an appointment to change the fuse.
    If Southern Electric is not your local network operator, phone us on 0800 980 8476*. Our advisers will take your details and pass them to your local network operator who will contact you to discuss the work.

Clearly they mean cutout, but I suspect if they put that, joe public wouldn't know what they meant.

Indeed - but if they called it "the supplier's fuse enclosure", or something like that, most people would probably know what they were talking about.

... but, there again, maybe there are some meters which do leak (hot or cold) liquids :)
