Leaking Shower Valve

There is water leaking from the valve / handle used to control the temperature of our shower. What would be the cheapest way to fix this? Should I try and replace the component with the white plastic sheath shown in the picture? If so, what is the part called and how do I remove it? Thankyou in advance !

Thanks, looks like I need to get new bar mixer and ebay seems to have some good deals on offer.

The two connectors that attach to the water outlets on the wall ; do these have to be a certain size to be compatible? If so, how do I know which size I need?

Its worn out so leaking. The pipe centres should be 150mm (industry standard now days).

target price £80 ish,you may be able to buy the valve only and keep the hose,riser,shower head but a complete new kit always looks good.
