Leaking soil pipe 80ft in the air.........

Hi,

I'm not sure whether the aerosol will have enough power to push the foam through a 4 ft pipe, or if the foam will start to set before it reaches the end. A little test is required first, I think. With a plastic pipe of course you can see the foam travelling down the tube, but it is naturally floppy. Rigging a gun/can, and operating the trigger mechanism, on the end of a stick is more of a challenge. Nail varnish remover cleans the tube (but this stuff is Sticky!).

There will be drips and droppings, so some caution is needed. Also if you fall out of the window whilst doing this scaffolding will seem a cheap option, so take care!

Rgds.

You lot make me laugh..........all sitting there plotting how to do this job the wrong way, extention sticks, aerosols, sticky stuff etc etc all of it bound to go wrong one way or another and even the chance of an unnecessary accident on the cards.

Do the right thing get either a scaffold, an abseiler or a hoist. 80 feet up in the air, c'mon. Better to be skint than Dead

:D 8) :D 8) :D

Bosun`s Chair  and a Steeplejack..........poncy lycra clad abseilers  OR The SAS....abseil face down

:( got one of those....
the diameter of the ducts actually prevent you getting close enough to apply ...errr whatever you want to ....whatever....

Go down your local chinese take-away. They'll sort you out...

Hmmm,

My daughter's squeeze used to work for a pipeline maintenance company. So, take the WC out, get the camera and other gear into the soil pipe, and fit a liner so that it passes the leaky joint. I don't know how they do it, probably some plastic stuff. It's a pain taking the WC out but at least you won't fall out of the window.

Rgds.

All very funny.

Only just got back from a meeting so dark again. The Heath Robinson contraption with the aerosol foam/tube and stick is built and will be tried tomorrow - will keep you posted.

If this fails i'm off to china for bamboo and some chinese.

and if that fails its the helicopter backpac.

Something has to work as my whole day is now based upon clean toilets - was in Birmingham Airport today and i wasn't impressed - had to be used though as i was coming back to a -

Thats a decent idea - may give that a whirl.

Thanks, Steve

Very interesting problem :D but maybe not for you at the mo :(

Was thinking of something like this

http://www.scapaeurope.com/news/022.html

or this

http://www.piperepair.com.au/

if you can unravel some and tie one end to a stick then feed around pipe with another stick. Might be fiddly but might work.

Have my doubts about the foam and could possibly make things worse.

Am fascinated to know what you do in the end and how its resolved.

good luck

Sorry, only just realised that there was a page 2 to this so hadn't seen the other suggestions.

Now the order is -

1. Putty on end of stick.
2. My aerosol contraption.
3. Lining the pipe - taking the bowl out.
4. Abseiling.
5. Helicopter backpac.
6. Bamboo scaffolding.
7. Sell flat and move to new build
8. Hard boild eggs, followed by more hard boiled eggs.

Once again, thanks for the suggestions. The comments have at least put a smile on my face.

Steve

 It`s gotta be done from the inside of the pipe as suggested previously.........But I`ve seen somewhere in UK a drain wrap repair  maybe it was at Pipeline Center?..anyways line from spigot end by wc, along past crack Hold in place with infalted balloon  ....or modifiued scrap inner tube from car tyre
