Leaking stopcock

Hi

I'm sorry if this has been covered before.

My stopcock leaks when closed. It seems to work ok apart from a slight leak from around the spindle.

1) Do I need to turn of the mains outside?

2) What do I use to repair the leak? PTFE or something else?

try tightening up the nut at the bottom on the spindle a bit
