Leaking toilet inlet isolator valve

Hi all, Ive noticed water emerging from the bottom of the front of the toilet base.

Looks like the water isolator vale is leaking. Consistent drips are coming from it. Ive turned the isolator valve to the off position (after I took the below photos), but its still dripping, just not as much.

Whats the cause please? Has something failed in the valve? Nothing looks corroded on the outside.

Looks like it is after the valve, not the valve itself. Is it running down from above?

Looks like it's dripping down from the fill valve up in the cistern. Whether it's leaking past the seal on the fill valve itself or from the connection of the flexi pipe onto the fill valve, would need to be checked.

Only way to be sure really is to take a look, sooner rather than later before it damages the wood flooring.

I initially thought the water was coming out of here:

I turned the isolater valve off, but it was still dripping. I flushed the toilet to clear the cistern of water.. and the dripping stopped. So yes, good point, l suspect its the fill valve.

However, after reading your post about whether its running down from above, I wanted to check. So turned on the isolator valve which starting filling the cistern again. And this time.... no dripping! Ive been looking at it for 5 minutes, and theres been no drips, and Ive felt up behind the toilet when the inlet pipe goes, and can feel no moisture.

Ugh, ignore that, the dripping has started again, and its definitely coming from above.

Whats the next step? Try and get a spanner to tighten where the inlet pipe goes into the cistern?

It could be one of the 2 things, they would need 2 different approaches. If you know what you should be looking at without seeing it then it might be able to be done by feel, if you don't then you need to be able to see what you are doing that means being able to look up underneath, if there isn't enough space as it is then the pan/cistern needs to be moved out enough to get access.

If either has just gone loose then it's either tighten the larger plastic nut on the fill valve's shank. If it's the flexi then the female nut needs nipped up. If the seal has gone on either of these items then they would need replaced, that's another different process.

Tighten up the fill valve connector first, see if that stops it.

Could even be the flexi pipe has a fracture. Dry tissue paper will help find where the leakage starts.

Its a really awkward angle. Ive put my phone on selfie mode and stuck it under the cistern to see where the inlet pipe goes.

If I can get a spanner on it, is it worth trying to tighten that bolt?

Need to really know where it is leaking from but could try tightening the other end of the braided hose underneath the cistern, not the bit you have arrowed.

It would be more this bit, the female end of the flexi pipe that connects to the inlet of the fill valve under the cistern, you may want to try and tighten.


Pic 2 - That is the fill valve yes but the flexi pipe has a female connector that tightens onto the threaded shank of the fill valve, slightly out of shot but arrowed in the pic, that's on the other side (outside) of the cistern

Don't know if it's relevant/significant, but the isolator(?) at the top of the flexi has an arrow which suggests the flexi flow direction is wrong.

I think it is on the supply coming out the wall. The picture is at a funny angle.
