plz help, i was driving this morning and turned heater knob up to 4 and after a while the windscreen went totally fogged up and hot water was dripping from under glove box, now i no know that the coolant level was not topped up to required amount. the car is a vw golf mk3.

not sure where to start to find the problem, obviously from researching on web it sounds like heater matrix but im no expert as u might of guessed....! any help would be much help

Sorry, you can't identify that, a little, then you certainly can't do the job, go to one or two backstreets with a decent rep, they are there.

Some cars have push fit connections to the heater matrix, sealed with an '0' ring, see if you can remove the glove box and have a look, you may surprise yourself and save some money.

first thing to check is the heater fan. Open the bonnet, and take off the plastic scuttle tray that covers the wiper assembly. You'll see the heater fan in there. You'll probably find leaves and other crap in there which let water overflow through the fan and down into the car. Either side of the car there are drain holes to let the water out.
Failing that, it will be heater matrix. They are a bit of a pig to change, mainly the time involved doing it. It can be done with the dashboard still in the car, but you need a double jointed arm.

Blocked plenum chamber drains was my first thought, till the OP mentioned hot water dripping inside car.

Teach me to skim read
Get it done damn quick, as they have a habit of bursting open when they start to leak, and you dont want 90 degree coolant all over your legs.
Temp fix is to find the 2 pipes under the bonnet that go through the bulkhead, and join them together with a bit off copper pipe and jubilee clips.
Downside is you lose your heating, plus side you keep your skin intact

If your car has plenty of antifreeze, put your finger in the offending liquid and taste it, if its antifreeze it will be sweet.
