hi all

in a few weeks I will be replacing my polycarbonate roof on my utility for a tiled roof with some roof windows

is 5x2 ok for the rafters? Max span will be 2.6m

also what size should I use for ridge wall plate?

thanks in advance

when you cut one of your rafters 5x2 the angle of your pitch? will mean you need a 6x2 to sit on.

I'm buying a paslode im350 for this job as it will make life easier.

What size nails should I go for?

Last time I did a roof I used 4"

dont foget to double up your rafters by the side of your velux. 90mm galvanised nails for the timber 63mm for the batons

The plaslode will only take maximum 90mm nails

I prefer the Hitachi nails as they are much thicker than the Paslode ones, and the nails were quite cheap at the Wickes Extra warehouse at Perry Bar about one year ago. But they did not come with the gas canister

Also, I've noticed that a few places now are not stocking 5x2, only 4x2 and 6x2

Woody will 90mm be ok?
How much were the hitachi ones from Wickes?

There are a few places for wood not too far from me (great barr) so should not be a problem, if not will e 6x2

I would double your rafters by the side of your roof windows if you want that solid feeling when you open and close them.

90mm nails are fine.

I don't recall how much the nails were a wickes, but I do recall buying quite a few boxes so that must mean that they were cheap
