i am new to CCTV and purchased a Floureon AHD 960HD 2000TVL system which I am just getting to grips with.

I currently have one problem with night vision. The main camera looks out onto my front driveway and is very clear except that when a person walks to within a distance where his/her face would be recognisable (4-7 feet) the image 'whites-out' which I presume means the LEDs are too strong when someone approaches that close.

Is there a way around this? I wondered if reducing the LED strength by sticking some form of neutral density filter around the lower part of the LED array might help, but at the same time, I'd also like to be able to see down to the gate (as I can now).

Any advice appreciated

I had a similar problem with a camera, and put black paint over some of the LEDs. It will reduce the range as well though as they are not very directional.

I fitted a flood light so that when someone came down the drive and approached the house it turned into daylight.......no night vision issues then and it makes it easier when searching footage

I did exactly the same.

Try zooming the camera in more so that the face fills more of the screen. This will improve exposure.

The problem with wide angle cameras is that the face only forms a small part of the screen meaning exposure is set for the main part of the image. You also don't get many pixels on the face = very little detail.

Good cameras will also have some electronic settings which allow adjustment of things like wide dynamic range and the performance at night.

By blocking out IR LED's you are reducing the effectiveness of the camera further away.
